Recommended For:
- Fans of Brandon Sanderson
- Flintlock lock fantasy / a magic-system most people are probably not too familiar with
- Revolution/musket time period
- Fast-paced, high tension story telling
⚠️ Known Side Effects:
- No character appendix! (This will always be my biggest peeve in fantasy/sci-fi)
- I could see some people… well, I don’t really have any negatives, to be honest
📝 Long-Term Prognosis
Closing thoughts:
To put it simply, this was an incredible series. There were only 2 things I wish we had more off: background on Ka-Poel, and explaining the Privilege magic system more. Obviously, we can’t get everything explained all at once, but we’ve known about the Privilege since book 1, and I feel like with Ka-Poel, we just keep getting mystery upon mystery adding to her own magic and origin. For me, it would have been nice to get more definitive answers on the Priviledge, and some solid information on Ka-Poel.
Outside of those two personal preferences of mine, what a freaking awesome series! Yes, yes, the powder mage system is cool, but they real hype here is with characters. Outstanding job, some of the best characters and character development I have read. Tamas and Taniel stand at the upper echelon with few other novel characters I’ve had the privilege to join.
The next this part of this series that is awesome, that I have yet to mention, are all the novellas! For the Powder Mage Trilogy there are 8 novellas that take place before The Promise of Blood, and of course, I already own all of them. So before I start the next trilogy, Gods of Blood and Power, I’m going to start working on these first.
